Final Digital Output

Here is my visualisation. It is a series of images which will be created into a moving image. Each projection will be displayed on the wall rotating one to the next. I feel this will look good as I wanted my final output to be something moving and not a still image.

I thought about what strong image to use, I felt this one really summarized my work and shows the main ideas throughout my project which really fed my working progress.

My context sheet really shows my journey throughout Unit X. I have included main inspirations, materials I have used and ideas that have progressed through the project.

Coming to an end..

Throughout this project I have done a lot of experimenting and exploring my ideas. I feel I have used techniques I wouldn't usually work with which has been very exciting. I worked a lot with digital. I wanted to use different materials that I wouldn't use normally which I feel has worked well. Working with projection proved to work well, I loved the textile quality created which was unexpected as I didn't realise it was a very textile piece.

As I was working with paper at the start I decided to bring some sort of hands on textiles into it so started to explore with knit. Projecting with two different materials (paper and knits) was interesting as I could see what quality each had. The paper I felt worked better when projecting the image, however the knits did pick up the image and created a textural surface which was interesting. I feel throughout my work I have really portrayed my inital ideas of Hidden Things and uncovering something. I feel I have uncovered the textiles in hidden areas of Manchester. Looking at how the walls and streets are textile in themselves with the bursts of colour and textile surfaces. I have shown my working progress through the blog with a variety of images and analysis.

Experimenting with Photoshop

I started experimenting with photoshop to produce my visualisation and my strong image for the final digital output.

I have manipulated this image in photoshop and I may use one as my strong image as I feel it shows the idea of my work well.

Snippets of Sketchbook

Here I have taken snippets from my sketchbook which I feel show parts of my journey through UnitX.

I have thought about colours that relate well to my hidden things images and that I could create my knits from.

Hand Knits

Following on from doing my knitting I did some more hand knitting. I used paper yarn and wool.  I wanted to experiment with the polystrene balls again as I felt they worked well when i wrapped the knits around them. This time i wanted to explore stretching the knits to make them appear more textured and loose.

Inspiration

Flicking through a HOME magazine I came across interior designers Laura Oakes and Suzanne Goodwin. After researching a little more into them I found there work really exciting and interesting.

Laura Oake's work is very detailed and patterned. I love her use of colour, some of her peices look digital which is interesting as we in Unit X are looking at creating a digital output.

'Blossom''Blossom'Bird nestle art work

This also got me thinking about how we as Living It group are creating an interior idea for the new building thinking about what will make the building appear exciting and interesting and how we can create a good energy.

Suzanne Goodwin's work is pretty similar she again works with pattern however I feel her work is more textured which I like.

Final digital output ideas

I have started to think of ideas on how to create my final digital output. I have had several ideas which include projection, moving image and video recording processes of my creations and experiments. I have started to experiment using snapshots of my work which show a journey in a few simple photographs..

Drawing Knits

I wanted to create some drawings from the knits experimenting with the shape and size of them, I like the texture created from them, they looked zoomed in and makes the loops appear larger.

Photocopying Knits

I wanted to experiment with scanning the knits and drawings from them using tracing paper, picking up areas of the knits which are interesting and textured. I started drawing shapes from the knits and trying to establish the marks in the knits.

Projecting with Knits

Following from a tutorial last week I got a few ideas about wrapping knits around polystyrene balls to make the knits appear larger and looser. I like how they turned out.

I also developed my finger knitting and started to experiment with knitting with hand needles. Exploring the different ways of knitting was interesting and I like the different textures you get from each.

After projecting onto my paper models I decided to experiment with knits as I felt this could be more interesting. I was worried the knits wouldn’t pick up the projected image however i feel they have worked pretty well, these create much more of a texture however I feel the paper models project the image clearer. I think both work well.

Projection onto wrapped knits...

I love the 3D quality that has been created within the images. They again follows on from my hidden things idea well as the balls seem to be trapped and hidden within the knits.
