London Fashion Week

As London fashion week is happening at the moment I decided to take a look at what is going on and see if I could source any inspiration or be influenced by any designers.
Whilst looking I came across many designers I liked the look of, most didn't really fit in with my work at the moment though untill I caught my eye on Mark Fast and his collection from 2009.

I like the use of loose open structure which also looks slighly fragile.

I like how splashes of colour have been used here in a similar way to me incorprating splashes of colour in my own work.

Developing knits & putting them into context

Exploring ideas of structure and layers within my knits has helped me develop my experimentation and create textured knits. I started to bring hints of colour into some of them as they started to look too dull and I lost some of the textile quality.

I then started to think about the knits in a context and started to photograph them onto the body to see how they would work as a fashion piece.
When taking the photographs I thought a lot about how if they were garments they still linked into this idea of protection and layering.

Structure

I have started to explore into structured fashion linking back to the Bench project where I am experimenting with building structure, layers and texture.

I came across designer Sandra Backlund who I find influential...

Influences

"Feathers are in, with Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier, and Derek Lam all doing the trend. Whether they are in jewelry, dresses, or in hair extensions feathers show off a festive flare."

Knitting

I have started to experiment with the ideas of protection, layers and structure. Thinking about how the birds feathers are shaped and the textures they portray.
I have also looked into hints of colour which are shown within my photographs.

I have also started to develop my skills on the Dubied machine. I started to think about creating layers or trapping things using the pockets technique and transparent yarn.
This is an idea about how to trap things in and create a surface texture.

To develop my knits I have purchased some feathers I plan to knit with, I also want to dip dye things and start fading my knits out to portray this idea of feathers.

Bench Brief

I have decided to do the bench brief as one of my competitions. I started to look at the northern quarter for inspiration. Whilst looking around I started thinking about layers in the architecture and the protection the buildings provide, linking to the idea of the protection of the birds feathers.

I thought a lot about structure and how my two competitions, Urban outfitters and Bench could be linked or cross over slightly.

I started to look into architect Frank Gehry for inspiration.
